Recently, White House adviser John Podesta basically affirmed that the United States is fossil-fuel dependent for the foreseeable future, and he seemed to extol the virtues of hydraulic fracturing (“White House: We back fracking, U.S. energy boom,” Web, May 5).

While taking credit for what has been private production of natural gas, Mr. Podesta underscored our need for fossil fuels. Billionaire environmental activist Tom Steyer and his climate cronies must be beyond livid. My only hunch as to why Mr. Podesta still remains part of the Obama administration is that he must have a trick or two up his sleeve. Republicans, don’t get snookered by what evil lurks behind the curtain.
