SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Former U.S. Treasury official Neel Kashkari is giving his campaign for governor another $500,000, bringing his personal contributions to $1 million.
That represents more than one-fifth of his personal wealth.
Kashkari reported the contribution Friday, a little more than three weeks before the June 3 primary.
The GOP candidate has struggled to gain traction, with public opinion polls last month showing him trailing state Assemblyman Tim Donnelly.
Kashkari has raised more than $1 million since mid-March. Donnelly has brought in about $150,000 in that time but had campaign debts of about the same amount.
Fellow Republicans criticized Donnelly this week for his efforts to link Kashkari, who is Indian-American, to fundamentalist Islamic law. Donnelly refused to apologize in a radio interview Friday, saying he was just asking questions.
