Golf ball-sized hail is predicted to hit in areas from Texas to Illinois on Friday, prompting at least one leading meteorologist to warn drivers: You might want to stay home and shelter your vehicle.
“If you can leave your car in the garage, that would be preferable,” said Michael Palmer, a senior forecaster with The Weather Channel. “We’re going to see isolated storms with high winds and golf ball-sized hail from Texas, up through Arkansas and the Mississippi Valley and into Illinois and Indiana.”
Chances for tornadoes were rated low, but heavy rainfall is a near certainty, NBC News reported.
“Heavy downpours could cause water build-up on the roads and at the least, people need to slow down on their journeys throughout most of the day,” Mr. Palmer said.
The worst of the storm activity is slated for the late morning and early afternoon time frame.
