TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - A Florida Highway Patrol trooper was investigating a four-car crash on a highway when a motorist had a different kind of emergency - a baby.

On Friday morning, Trooper Brett McCranie responded to the crash on Interstate 4 in Hillsborough County when a Ford Explorer stopped. The driver of the Ford approached McCranie and said his wife, Emilia Paz, was about to give birth.

McCranie ran to the Ford and helped deliver the baby.

The trooper provided basic care for the newborn and called Hillsborough County Fire Rescue, who arrived and took mother and baby to Tampa General Hospital.

The baby’s name is Iris. Officials say she’s doing well.
