BURLINGTON, N.C. (AP) - No bats in the belfry in Burlington, but there was one bat in a bedroom.
Health officials in Alamance County said a Burlington resident woke up to find a bat flying in the bedroom.
Health officials said the person was able to get out of the bedroom, close off the room and contact animal control officers.
The North Carolina State Laboratory of Public Health confirmed Thursday that the bat had rabies.
There were eight confirmed cases of rabies in Alamance County last year. The state reported 380 confirmed cases.
