RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - A political committee designed to help elect Democrats to the U.S. Senate like Kay Hagan are running the first new two television ads of the fall campaign against Republican nominee Thom Tillis.

The Senate Majority PAC confirmed one of the ads beginning Friday was recorded in a hotel ballroom as Tillis gave his Republican primary acceptance speech there Tuesday night. The commercial features a woman whispering as Tillis talks. She says Tillis made promises he won’t keep and will hurt North Carolina families.

The ads highlight tax changes approved last year in the legislature, where Tillis is House speaker. One also mentioned pay raises he gave his staff in 2011.

A PAC spokesman says it’s spending $800,000 to run the ads over the next two weeks across the state.
