AKRON, Ohio (AP) - Trustees have picked a University of Toledo administrator as the University of Akron’s next president, choosing him over former Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel and another finalist.
Trustees say Scott Scarborough starts as president on July 1. He’s been provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at Toledo since 2012.
Akron’s current president, Luis Proenza (proh-EN’-zah), is leaving the job in June.
The other finalists were the provost at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and Tressel, who’s been an Akron administrator for two years. He took the job after being forced out at Ohio State following a scandal in which players sold memorabilia for cash and tattoos.
Tressel remains a finalist for the presidency at Youngstown State University, where he previously coached. Youngstown State trustees meet Friday.
