EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) - Southern Illinois University’s governing board is weighing whether to increase fees.

The system’s board of trustees was to tackle that issue during its meeting Thursday in Edwardsville.

The board last month opted against raising tuition by 3 percent for newcomers to the Carbondale campus and 5 percent for those in Edwardsville.

The board’s chairman, Randal Thomas, said then that there was no traction for boosting tuition costs.

The proposed fees run the gamut, ranging from charges involving technology to flight training, mass transit and student activities.

The meeting is the first including the system’s new president, Randy Dunn. He replaced Glenn Poshard, who retired last week.
