MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - One of South Carolina’s top tourism officials says travel can create jobs and generate economic growth as the nation continues to recover from the Great Recession.
Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce president and CEO Brad Dean, testified Thursday before a U.S. Senate committee in Washington on efforts to attract 100 million visitors a year to the nation.
Dean told lawmakers that BrandUSA, which markets America overseas, has spurred interest among foreign travelers.
He also discussed the importance of completing Interstate 73, the interstate planned to link the Grand Strand with Michigan. It would be Myrtle Beach’s first interstate connection.
Dean said the interstate would create 29,000 jobs and boost tourism as well as attracting new industry and providing a hurricane evacuation route.
