INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - A high-speed police chase ended with a crash on a busy downtown Indianapolis street that injured a bicyclist and officers arresting the suspected driver inside a nearby parking garage.
Video from television station WTHR’s helicopter showed an SUV weaving in Interstate 70 traffic heading eastbound toward downtown Indianapolis about 9 a.m. Thursday.
State police Sgt. Rich Myers says the chase began about 40 miles west of Indianapolis when a Putnam County officer saw the SUV driving recklessly.
Myers says the SUV topped 100 mph before leaving I-70 and crashing into a car at a Meridian Street intersection near Monument Circle. Myers says the car spun into a bicyclist, who was taken to a hospital with leg and back injuries.
Officers arrested the SUV’s driver within minutes after he ran away.
