ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) - A 75-year-old flight instructor and his 38-year-old student have died in a southwestern Utah plane crash.

Police say the two men killed in the Wednesday accident were St. George pilot Gary Hawes and Washington, Utah resident Brad Brian.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office says in a statement the plane belongs to a flight school in St. George.

Police say they don’t know what caused the crash or whether the pilot sent emergency signals.

Mountain bikers have told police they saw the single-engine plane dive behind a ridge near Santa Clara, about 11 miles southwest of St. George.

Suzan Hawes tells the Spectrum of St. George (https://bitly.com/) her husband was an instructor and was a pilot in the Vietnam War.

The National Transportation Safety Board continues to investigate.
