Sen. Pat Roberts sought assurance Thursday that President Obama’s pick to replace departing Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius will not use Obamacare as a back-door to single-payer health care.
The government-run system used by multiple Western countries had been favored by some of the Affordable Care Act’s liberal architects, but it is detested by the political right.
On Thursday, Mr. Roberts wanted HHS nominee Sylvia Mathews Burwell to attest that she will not push the envelope.
“If I am confirmed, I will implement the law,” she said, noting the exchange system uses commercial insurance.
