SAN DIEGO (AP) - The San Diego Padres recalled right-handed pitcher Kevin Quackenbush from Triple-A El Paso on Thursday.

Quackenbush was called up to bolster an overused bullpen that has seen plenty of action lately, especially with two extra-inning games in the last three.

Quackenbush will be seeing his second major league action after being recalled on April 25 for two days. He has a 1.26 ERA with six saves in 13 games at El Paso.

The Padres designated right-hander Hector Ambriz for assignment. Ambriz had been selected from El Paso on Wednesday and pitched in San Diego’s 8-0 loss to Kansas City.

San Diego also announced that outfielder Xavier Nady cleared waivers and was outrighted to El Paso. Nady had been designated for assignment on Monday.
