UPPER SANDUSKY, Ohio (AP) - A northern Ohio man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for the shooting deaths of his estranged girlfriend and another man at a sportsmen’s club last fall.

A judge in Wyandot County, about 75 miles northwest of Columbus, sentenced 65-year-old Richard Clark on Wednesday after he pleaded guilty in March to two counts of aggravated murder.

Clark admitted he killed 49-year-old Roger Fredritz of rural Carey, and 49-year-old Cynthia Hawkinberry of Tiffin at the Carey Conservation Sportsman’s Association club on Nov. 1.

An investigator said he shot them multiple times with a .22-caliber semi-automatic handgun, then smoked a cigarette outside before he was arrested.

Clark and Hawkinberry were formally engaged. Clark repeatedly cried during the hearing and apologized.
