NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (AP) - Narragansett’s town manager says an off campus party held by University of Rhode Island students over the weekend devolved into a riot.

Pamala Nolan says about 800 to 1,000 people were involved, some throwing beer bottles and destroying property. Three police departments responded Saturday to disburse the crowd.

Several people were injured by the flying glass, none seriously.

At least 15 people were arrested. Thomas Dougan, URI vice president for student affairs, says students involved will face university discipline, which could include expulsion.

The Narragansett Town Council responded Monday by passing an ordinance raising the minimum penalties for public drunkenness, disturbing the peace and urinating in public from $100 to $200.
