Rep. Michele Bachmann was only one of two female congressional members — the other was Rep. Vicky Hartzler — to vote no on a proposal to build a new women’s history museum near the National Mall.
The measure passed with a wide margin of 383 to 33.
But Ms. Bachmann warned the facility is going to prove little more than a testament to leftist, liberal ideals about the liberated woman.
“I believe this museum that will be built on the National Mall, on federal land, will enshrine that radical feminist movement,” she said, The Hill reported. She also said that while the legislation for the facility calls for funding to come from private donations, the taxpayer would likely end up paying the bulk.
“Let’s face it,” Ms. Bachmann said, The Hill reported. “We wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t the museum’s ultimate goal to get a place on the federal mall of land and federal funding.”
Ms. Bachmann certainly wasn’t alone in her views. Concerned Women for America, Susan B. Anthony List and Heritage Action all urged Republicans to vote against the proposal.
