White House budget chief Sylvia Mathews Burwell might have a tough job now, but the post she now wants is “perhaps the most thankless,” Sen. John McCain said Thursday.
Mr. McCain, Arizona Republican, said he will support Mrs. Burwell to replace departing Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, even though he advised her not to be the new face of Obamacare’s rollout.
“After all, who would recommend their friend take over as captain of the Titanic after it hit the iceberg?” Mr. McCain said at Mrs. Burwell’s confirmation hearing before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee.
