BREMERTON, Wash. (AP) - Police say an 88-year-old man suffering a medical emergency drove into Sinclair Inlet Thursday at a Bremerton park.

The Bremerton man was rescued by boaters, police and a firefighter. Police say he’s in intensive care at Harrison Medical Center.

Police say the car was submerged in about 10 feet of water 30 feet from shore when a police officer and firefighter arrived on the beach at Bachmann Park. They went into the water and the firefighter took an ax to break the car window.

They were helped by two men testing boats for SAFE Boats International of Bremerton.

Together they cut the man out of the car and took him to shore. Another officer and the firefighter swam back to the car to make sure no one else was inside.
