OPINION:
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says the Koch brothers are “one of the main causes” of climate change because they have investments in oil companies (“Kochs one of the main causes of climate change,” Inside Politics, May 8). Meanwhile, President Obama can attend five fundraisers in California, with a virtual conga line of U.S. Air Force aircraft following Air Force One to support him, spewing tons of carbon into the atmosphere as they do so.
Does Mr. Reid think that oil companies should shut down production of aviation fuel and stop the presidential aircraft entourage from flying? The alternative would be the Department of Defense spending $150 a gallon on “green” jet-fuel substitutes derived from algae instead of $2.88 a gallon for conventional jet fuel (“Military spending $150 a gallon on green jet-fuel substitutes,” also Inside Politics, May 8).
Instead of spewing his hatred of the Koch brothers, Mr. Reid should advise the president to stop spewing tons of carbon into the atmosphere in pursuit of campaign contributions. Of course, that will happen when pigs fly.
