TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - New Jersey state senators are bristling upon getting confirmation that the state government reimbursed the NFL because the league refuses to pay sales taxes on Super Bowl tickets and parking.
State Sen. Anthony Bucco says the states should get together and agree not to capitulate to that condition of hosting the Super Bowl.
“Tell them to have the super bowl in Ukraine next year,” the Republican said.
His comments came after state Treasurer Andrew Sidamon-Eristoff confirmed the deal that was a condition of holding February’s game at MedLife Stadium. He says the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority reimbursed the league $7.5 million for sales taxes. The state reimbursed the authority for that expense.
New Jersey Transit officials said last week that Super Bowl-related transportation cost that agency $5.6 million.
