Julia Roberts sent some shock waves through the memorial proceedings for her half-sister — Nancy Motes, who died of a drug overdose — with a reported expression of admiration for how she died, one source at the gathering told the Daily Mail.

A source at the Smyrna, Ga., memorial gathering said Ms. Roberts remarked:”[Nancy] took control and ended her pain when she had no other tools to cope with it. … [Julia] said that she admired that [Nancy] had the strength to do what she did, to end her pain,” the Daily Mail reported.

The unnamed source also told the Daily Mail that Ms. Roberts said she “just wanted to ’wring’ [Nancy’s] neck because she didn’t wait to see the joy that comes with the morning.”

Ms. Motes died of a drug overdose in February. Shortly after, it came to light that she and her Hollywood half-sister had a strained relationship.

The movie star was one of only a handful of family members who were invited to the memorial.
