Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is raising some eyebrows in a new TV interview with his assessment of Sheldon Adelson, a big-time political donor from Las Vegas.
“Don’t pick on him; he’s not in it to make money,” Mr. Reid, Nevada Democrat, told MSNBC’s Chuck Todd.
Pundits have reason to think otherwise. On Thursday, The Washington Post ran a front-page story about Mr. Adelson’s state-level efforts to ban internet gambling — a trend that could hurt actual casinos.
Mr. Todd, speaking to “Morning Joe,” noted that Mr. Adelson is the guy who owns these “brick and mortar” gambling palaces.
Mr. Reid, known for his mild manner but tough talk, then had a strange exchange with Mr. Todd in which he said party primaries were not good “for anybody.”
“Why go through all the trouble?” he said, then smiled and said he was “being facetious.”
