CHICAGO (AP) - An anti-violence program backed by some of Chicago’s largest businesses has awarded nearly $2 million in grants to community groups working in violent neighborhoods.
The grant money went to 11 groups providing programs in areas like youth mentoring, mental health, education and parenting.
The funds were awarded by a group called Get IN Chicago.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel participated in Wednesday’s announcement.
He said the initiative would help “build a bridge between the potential of our kids and the promise of this great city.”
Grant recipients are required to closely track and evaluate the performance of their programs.
