A Detroit grandmother has earned the family nickname of Granny Rambo after she grabbed her .45 caliber handgun — licensed and permitted — and used it to fight off two armed men who approached her in her driveway.
The grandmother of four, Paris Ainsworth, was actually shot four times, but she was still able to pull out her gun and return fire. Ms. Ainsworth, 51, said she was getting out of her car and noticed the men approach, United Press International reported.
“He said, ’Don’t pull it,’ ” she said, describing how she instinctively reached for her gun but was warned to put it away, the local WDIV 4 reported. “I said, ’You mother [expletive],’ and pulled out [my gun] and started shooting. One — he was right in the middle of the street. The other one was right here.”
Ms. Ainsworth ended up at the same hospital as the wounded attackers went to for treatment — and they were later arrested, she said, UPI reported.
“If I wouldn’t have had my gun, I would be dead today,” she said, explaining how she has a concealed carry permit and trains with her two handguns on a regular basis. “This is ludicrous, the way that they are just robbing and trying to take stuff from people, and killing people.”
Siblings are now referring to her as “Rambo,” based on the movie character made famous by Sylvester Stallone.
