Rep. John J. Duncan says the Democratic opposition to the House committee investigation into the Benghazi attacks is fueled in part by their desire to shield former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who is considered the frontrunner for their party’s 2016 presidential nomination.
“The Democrat’s opposition to this committee looks a whole lot more political and is a whole lot more political than Republican support for it,” Mr. Duncan said Thursday. “It looks like it is being done specifically, not only to protect the president, but to protect Hillary Clinton’s possible campaign.”
Polls show that Mrs. Clinton is leading the pack of possible contenders for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination by a wide margin. They also show that she outperforms many of the likely GOP presidential contenders in hypothetical general election match-ups.
