PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency wants to add a Montgomery County site to the Superfund environmental cleanup list.
The EPA says in a Thursday release that the proposal puts the Harleysville site a step closer to getting a permanent cleanup that will protect people’s health.
Superfund is the federal program that investigates and cleans up the most complex hazardous waste sites.
EPA says the Baghurst Drive site is a residential area with contaminated ground water, affecting up to 42 water wells. The problem was discovered in 1999 and water filtration units were installed in homes, but the source of the contamination is still unknown.
