LONGMONT, Colo. (AP) - U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan says the focus on math and science is crucial in public schools.

During a visit to a Longmont-area school on Thursday, Duncan said more students are learning to like science, technology, engineering and math, also known as STEM courses.

According to the Longmont Times-Call (https://tinyurl.com/lybqel4 ), school superintendent Don Haddad said the St. Vrain Valley School District has more than 50 partnerships with area businesses, colleges and community groups that support students.

Duncan says federal funds that support those programs are investments in the future.
