CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire’s Executive Council has confirmed the appointment of a longtime education activist to state Board of Education.
Gov. Maggie Hassan’s nomination of Bill Duncan to the board had drawn fire from supporters of charter schools and an education tax credit law, who argue Duncan can’t serve as an unbiased administrator of programs he opposed. Duncan is the lead plaintiff in a lawsuit challenging the business tax credit that gives scholarships to students who attend private and religious schools.
After Thursday’s vote, Hassan said Duncan has consistently fought to improve the state’s education system to better prepare students for successful careers. She said his background in business and education will bring a valuable perspective to the board.
