SEATTLE (AP) - The Washington Department of Natural Resources expects the wildfire season will be worse than average.

In a briefing to reporters Tuesday in Seattle, officials said dry, warm weather is expected from June into August. There’s an increased potential for significant fires earlier in the season than last year.

In 2013, there were 764 wildfires on state-protected lands that burned nearly 200 square miles.
