ST. JOSEPH, Minn. (AP) - Stearns County is embracing a mode of travel more popular in Sun Belt states like Arizona or Florida.

Commissioners have approved use of lower-traffic county roads by golf cart drivers. Three cities in Stearns County - St. Joseph, Albany and Melrose - already allow the golf carts on city streets. But until now they have been prohibited on county roads.

Frank Osendorf likes to drive his golf cart to the fitness center in St. Joseph every morning. He tells the St. Cloud Times (https://on.sctimes.com/1iXpHwO ) that golf carts are cost efficient, environmentally friendly and are easy to get in and out of.

Commissioners set a one-year sunset date on the ordinance to review how it’s working.
