SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn has criticized his Republican opponent’s lack of specifics on a state budget plan.
The Chicago Democrat spoke Wednesday in Springfield before the Illinois Retail Merchants Association and Illinois Manufacturers’ Association’s annual Business Day meeting. Quinn’s opponent in the November election, Winnetka venture capitalist Bruce Rauner (ROW’-nur), was scheduled to speak to the group later Wednesday.
The governor detailed his proposed $38 billion state budget in late March. He says the state’s temporary income tax should be extended so Illinois can invest more in education.
Rauner opposes extending the income tax increase but hasn’t released specifics about what he would cut if it rolls back in January as scheduled.
