SAN DIEGO (AP) - The Padres called up right-handed pitcher Hector Ambriz and optioned infielder Jace Peterson to Triple-A El Paso on Wednesday.

Ambriz was 1-0 with an 1.62 ERA at El Paso. He appeared in 14 games and allowed 11 hits and three earned runs in 16.2 innings.

“We needed some bullpen help, especially after the last two nights when we went into extra innings,” Padres manager Bud Black said.

Peterson hit .174 in 10 games with the Padres.
