LAS VEGAS (AP) - Opening statements are scheduled Thursday in Las Vegas in the trial of a former Cirque du Soleil (sihrk doo soh-LAY’) performer accused of killing and dismembering a dancer in the Luxor hotel-casino’s “Fantasy” revue.
Prosecutors and defense attorneys said they planned to have a jury seated late Wednesday for the murder case against Jason Omar Griffith.
Griffith has pleaded not guilty to charges that could get him life in prison.
His lawyers say he was defending himself when 31-year-old Deborah Flores Narvaez died in December 2010.
Flores Narvaez danced under the name Debbie Flores. She was reported missing when she failed to show up for her show.
Griffith was arrested in January 2011, after Flores’ body parts were found in two concrete-filled containers in an empty Las Vegas home.
