ROSEVILLE, Mich. (AP) - Police in suburban Detroit say they believe they’ve solved the abduction and rape of a 62-year-old woman who was attacked at a church bingo game in 1998.
Michael Loftis of Macomb County’s Clinton Township has been charged with the crimes. Prosecutor Eric Smith says Loftis’ DNA matched samples collected from clothing and a car 16 years ago.
Smith says the woman was kidnapped from a bingo game at a summer church festival in Roseville. She died in 2011 at age 75.
The prosecutor says Loftis’ DNA was obtained by California authorities in a different matter. Michigan State Police got a match through a national database.
The 44-year-old Loftis is charged with criminal sexual conduct, kidnapping and unlawful imprisonment. He’ll appear in court Wednesday. A lawyer hasn’t been assigned yet.
