AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Maine Gov. Paul LePage has nominated two individuals for top judicial appointments.
LePage announced Wednesday he’s nominating Jeffery Hjelm to the Supreme Court of Maine and Deputy Attorney General William Stokes to Superior Court.
Hjelm is a resident of Camden and a superior court justice for the Knox County Superior Court. He was first nominated to the Superior Court by Gov. King in 1998 and was reappointed by Gov. Baldacci in 2005.
Stokes is the mayor of Augusta and the chief of the criminal division of the Maine Attorney General’s Office. He has served under nine attorney generals since 1977.
Judicial nominees must be reviewed by committee and confirmed by the full Senate.
