New York Rep. Michael Grimm may be facing federal indictment — but he’s feeling lucky.
In fact, he thinks he’s “one of the luckiest members of Congress,” he said, during a recent WABC radio interview with Geraldo Rivera. Why?
“I say that because I have salt-of-the-earth people in my district. Staten Island and southwest Brooklyn are just goodhearted, hardworking, regular, everyday people,” Mr. Grimm said, Politico reported. “In all sincerity, I am one of the most — strange, it might sound bizarre — but I really am one of the luckiest members of Congress.”
Mr. Grimm was just hit with a 20-count federal indictment. Among the charges: Filing false tax returns, committing mail and wire fraud, hiring illegal aliens to work for him, perjury and obstruction. The charges focus on the health-food restaurant he owned in New York City and include one that says he failed to report $1 million-plus in income, Politico reported.
Mr. Grimm said he’s going to fight the charges, but at the same time seek re-election — an experience he describes as “horrific,” Politico reported.
“I’m holding up well,” he said. “Obviously, it’s a horrific thing. I wouldn’t wish it on my enemies. But I’m doing rather well.”
