GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - Furman pitching coach Mike Ranson has resigned.

Head coach Ron Smith announced the move Wednesday. Ranson had spent the past two seasons with the Paladins. No reason was given for Ranson’s departure.

Smith thanked Ranson for his time with the team and wished him luck. Ranson said in a statement he enjoyed working with the players and regretted not being able to coach the classes of student athletes he brought to the Greenville school.

Smith said volunteer assistant coach Landon Powell would take over as interim pitching coach in Ranson’s absence. Powell is the former major leaguer who helped South Carolina to three straight College World Series trips from 2002-04.
