The inspector general for the Environmental Protection Agency is due to testify before a House oversight committee on Wednesday and tell congressional members: The EPA has gone rogue and has been operating a secret enforcement unit.
Testimony published at the committee’s online site on Tuesday indicates that EPA investigator Patrick Sullivan is going to publicly accuse the EPA administrator’s office of discretely — and illegally — running a “rogue enforcement agency” that’s served to stymy any type of outside, independent investigations, The Associated Press reported.
He accuses, in his testimony, the Office of Homeland Security as taking the lead role in the “rogue” actions to block independent queries, AP reported. The Office of Homeland Security is operated out of EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy’s office.
Homeland Security repeatedly blocks any type of independent investigations by citing national security concerns, Mr. Sullivan says, in his testimony, AP reported.
An EPA deputy administrator, meanwhile, has already addressed the allegations by saying that workers in the Homeland Security section cooperate fully with the inspector general, and respect his role and position, AP reported.
