PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The former deputy of the state economic development agency that approved a $75 million loan guarantee for Curt Schilling’s 38 Studios is the second witness to decline to testify before a House committee reviewing the deal.
An attorney for former Economic Development Corp. Deputy Director Michael Saul wrote in a May 2 letter to Oversight Chairwoman Karen MacBeth that he is declining her invitation to appear before the panel. Lawyer Bruce Gladstone cited the ongoing litigation over the collapse into bankruptcy of the former Red Sox pitcher’s video game company.
Ex-EDC Executive Director Keith Stokes has also declined to testify, citing the same reason.
The committee has so far asked seven people connected to the deal to testify, including Schilling. MacBeth said Wednesday she hasn’t yet received other responses.
