CROWLEY, La. (AP) - Crowley’s American Legion Hospital will become Acadia General Hospital as Lafayette General Health takes over management of the 178-bed facility in June.

The Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/RqO7TF ) Lafayette General Health and American Legion Hospital officials signed transfer management documents during a ceremony Tuesday.

The management takeover won’t take effect until June 2. Lafayette General Health’s acquisition of management and operations of the Crowley hospital is pending approval by the Attorney General’s Office.

The state requires the Attorney General’s Office to approve acquisitions of nonprofit hospitals.

The hospital was established by members of American Legion Acadia Post No. 15 in 1929 as Legion Memorial Hospital.

It’s been known as American Legion Hospital since 1950 and the American Legion Corp. will retain ownership of the facility.

“This agreement aims to preserve Acadia Post 15’s legendary commitment to providing the best possible care to the community,” said David L. Callecod, Lafayette General Health president and CEO, in a news release.

“Together, we can offer an exciting new future for health care to the people of this area, and I would like to thank American Legion for their cooperation in creating this fantastic partnership.”

Lafayette General became affiliated with the Crowley hospital in May 2013 when it opened a Cancer Center of Acadiana on its campus.

Lafayette General Health plans to expand the Crowley hospital’s resources, technology and other capabilities with a goal of cost-effectiveness and enhanced delivery of patient care, officials said in a news release.

The Crowley hospital is part of Lafayette General Health, which also includes Lafayette General Medical Center, University Hospital & Clinics, Lafayette General Surgical Hospital, St. Martin Hospital and Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital.
