BETHEL, Alaska (AP) - The Yukon Kuskokwim Health Corp. will lay off about 100 workers and not fill another 50 positions that are currently open.
Bethel radio station KYUK reports (https://is.gd/bQwypQ) this is on top of 50 employees who were laid off last year. This is less than 10 percent of its workforce.
The corporation had a budget deficit of nearly $12 million last year.
Spokeswoman Donna Bach says there’s multiple reasons for the layoffs, including federal budget cuts, reduction of funds from Indian Health Services, not meeting revenue goals and slowed reimbursements from state Medicaid. The corporation also drained reserves with investments in a new electronic medical records systems and an elders home.
Pink slips will go out in the next 30 days. The corporation is expected to provide more details Friday.
