FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - American Airlines is adding nonstop service from Fort Wayne International Airport and Evansville Regional Airport to Philadelphia and Charlotte, North Carolina, beginning in October.

Officials say American will begin offering three nonstop flights daily between Evansville and Charlotte beginning Oct. 2. Evansville landed the new service with help from a $500,000 federal transportation grant that it received in 2011.

That same day, American’s US Airways Express will start twice daily service to Philadelphia and once daily service to Charlotte.

The Fort Wayne City Council allocated up to $600,000 in March to help induce an airline to offer daily flights to an East Coast travel hub from Fort Wayne.
