BALTIMORE (AP) - Authorities say a man was hit by an Amtrak train and killed.

Baltimore police say officers were called to North Smallwood Street on Monday night and found a man on the tracks who had been hit by the train. Fire department spokesman Ian Brennan says the man was pronounced dead on the scene.

Amtrak says the train was traveling from Vermont to Washington and the 135 passengers on board were put on another train to complete their trip.

Amtrak service between Baltimore and Washington was suspended for nearly two hours.
