NAPLES, Fla. (AP) - A southwest Florida man has been convicted of killing his former fiancee’s toddler daughter.

A Collier County jury found 32-year-old Todd Akers guilty Tuesday of first-degree murder. The Naples Daily News (https://goo.gl/M16EvK ) reports that he faces a mandatory life sentence.

Authorities say Akers was the only one with 2-year-old Abigail Rose Boran when she sustained fatal injuries at an East Naples condominium in May 2006. Akers testified the injuries were sustained when Abigail accidentally fell three over several hours.

Prosecutors couldn’t say exactly what Akers did to the girl, but two doctors testified that the injuries were too severe to be self-inflicted.
