HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - Former D’Iberville City Manager Michael Janus will be sentenced on June 24 in Hattiesburg before U.S. District Judge Keith Starrett.
The government did not object to Janus’ request for a 30-day continuance for the sentencing.
On Friday Janus’ attorneys asked that the sentencing be delayed to provide time to resolve sentencing issues. His sentencing had been scheduled for Tuesday.
Sentencing guidelines indicate the former D’Iberville city manager could spend as much as 10 years in prison for admitting to fraudulently obtaining a $180,000 finders’ fee for a company he co-owns with Scott Walker. The fee was paid by the city for helping D’Iberville acquire a $3 million MDEQ grant.
Scott Walker’s sentencing date is July 23.
Scott Walker also pleaded guilty to conspiracy and corruption, after being charged with working with his father, former state Department of Marine Resources Director Bill Walker, to sell the state land they owned, through the Land Trust for the Mississippi Coastal Plain. Bill Walker also pleaded guilty.
