INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - An Indianapolis firefighter is using guns to sculpt a dove-shaped memorial for homicide victims.

The Indianapolis Star reports (https://indy.st/1iRcMMK ) firefighter and artist Ryan Feeney unveiled a model of the Peace Dove last week.

Parts from destroyed firearms donated from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office will be reused to shape the bird and its outstretched wings.

The sculpture is set to be placed in Marion County, where more than 50 criminal homicides have occurred in Indianapolis so far this year.

Sheriff John Layton says the sculpture is a great opportunity to raise awareness about homicide victims and the needs of their surviving family members.
