SALINA, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a 5-year-old girl is recovering after she was hit by a car that jumped the sidewalk outside a Syracuse-area convenience store and smashed through the business.
The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office says the girl was standing with her sister in the store’s doorway while their mother used the nearby air pump outside the gas station in Salina (suh-LY’-nuh) around 7:45 p.m. Monday.
Deputies say a 17-year-old boy from Syracuse was pulling into a parking space when he inadvertently hit the accelerator instead of the brakes. The car hit the girl, throwing her onto the hood. The vehicle crashed through the door and slammed into shelving at the rear of the store.
Officials say the girl suffered minor cuts and scrapes.
The driver wasn’t injured. He wasn’t ticketed, but deputies say their investigation is continuing.
