LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) - Cadets at Virginia Military Institute will pay higher tuition and fees for the academic year that begins in August.
Tuition for Virginia residents will increase 5.9 percent to $7,498. Out-of-state cadets’ tuition will increase 5.3 percent to $29,554.
Virginia residents will pay a total $23,890 to attend VMI, a 6.2 percent increase. Out-of-state cadets’ total cost will rise 5.7 percent to $45,946.
The total cost includes tuition, fees, and room and board.
The Lexington school’s Board of Visitors approved the increases Friday. The school says the increases reflect rising program costs.
VMI is the nation’s oldest state-supported military college. It has an enrollment of more than 1,600 cadets.
