Rep. Adam Schiff, California Democrat, said Monday that a committee to investigate the Benghazi attack is shifting focus from the most important goal: getting justice for the four Americans who died in the attack.

“All of this is lost in this effort to find this conspiracy, to somehow embarrass the White House. We still have a lot of work to do to bring these people to justice, these killers of Americans,” he said on MSNBC.

He wouldn’t say whether Democrats will participate in the committee, created by the GOP.

“Whether the Democrats participate in the committee or don’t, the reality is it’s going to be a colossal waste of time and taxpayer money,” he said.

J. Christopher Stevens, the ambassador to Libya who died in the attack, loved to live among the Libyan people and wouldn’t want to have lived in a bunker, Mr. Schiff said.

“I think he would be mortified to see what has gone on in his name ever since,” he said.
