MINDEN, Nev. (AP) - A Reno man arrested over the weekend on suspicion of stalking a female athlete at a Douglas County High School track meet pleaded guilty Monday as authorities began trying to identify untold numbers of other victims found on surreptitious videos taken at school sporting events around the region.

Rodney Minton Skan, 59, was arrested Saturday after a school administrator noticed him and reported his actions to a deputy at the school.

When Skan realized he was being watched by Deputy Rod Ginocchio, he tried to leave but was contacted in the parking lot, where authorities said officers found evidence supporting his arrest.

“He was following this specific student,” said sheriff’s Sgt. Pat Brooks.

Skan pleaded guilty Monday to a misdemeanor charge of stalking, Douglas County District Attorney Mark Jackson said. The crime carries a possible penalty of up to six months in jail and $1,000 fine.

Sentencing was set for June 12. Skan remained jailed on $5,000 bail Monday afternoon and did not have a lawyer, according to a clerk at East Fork Justice Court in Minden.

Jackson said his office is working with law enforcement agencies throughout the region to try to identify other victims. He said it appears that Skan has lived off and on at a Reno motel for more than a decade and has been videotaping young female athletes for years.

“Some of the individuals that have been a target of his surreptitious types of videography, we know there is not a relationship between those girls and him,” Jackson said. “The investigation is ongoing and it will become multijurisdictional.”
